17 November 2020 – The Robert Anderson Memorial Talk
It is hard to believe that two years have passed since the untimely death of Robert Anderson, our previous Chairman, on 4 November 2018. As a tribute to Robert,
our November talk was thereafter designated The Robert Anderson Memorial Talk.
This year, for the second such talk, our speaker is Dr David Stewart and he cchoose a title that surely would have intrigued Robert:
`When the Boat Came In`
In the 1840’s the town of Belfast was developing with a growing population working in the linen and other emerging industries.
The town did not have the infrastructure to support this growth. Over a three-year period, the town faced three major public health challenges.
Dr Stewart`s talk will describe those challenges and how the town responded to them through major voluntary initiatives.
